How Our Boilers Heat Your Home

One of the most effective and comfortable ways to heat your Maryland home is with a natural gas boiler. It burns natural gas to heat water, and unlike a furnace, it doesn’t dry out the air, allowing you to feel comfortable at a slightly lower temperature.

Here’s how it works:

  1. A pilot light or electric igniter lights up a burner supplied with natural gas.
  2. The burner heats water indirectly through a heat exchanger.
  3. One or more pumps circulate the water throughout your home.
  4. The heated water passes through radiators or in-floor heating.
  5. The heat radiates to the interior of your home, cooling the water.
  6. The water returns to the boiler to be reheated.

The radiators can be traditional cast iron or steel radiators that are located in each room, smaller baseboard heaters that run along the bottom of the walls, or an in-floor heating system made from a series of tubes that are installed just below the surface of the floor.

Benefits of Gas-Fired Boilers

Gas-Fired Boilers Require Less Maintenance

Oil boilers have a very complex system of operation, which can lead to potentially costly repairs in the event of a breakdown. Oil boilers also require a large storage tank, which carries an element of risk for leakage.

Gas boilers, on the other hand, operate much more simply and require no storage tank. Instead, gas boilers are fed straight from the utility company, which means there’s also no risk of running out of fuel for your boiler during periods of heavy demand.

Gas-Fired Boilers Are More Cost-effective

Natural gas is a much cheaper fuel than oil. Gas boilers also run more efficiently than oil boilers. The combination of these two factors leads to drastically reduced monthly heating bills for your home. Natural gas is also fed to your home directly from the utility company, meaning you’ll never have to pay a company to come and fill your tank.

Gas boilers are also much more efficient than oil boilers. Many gas boilers come with a heat condenser, which lowers the temperature of the air escaping from your house and puts it back to good use. This means less heat escaping from your home and thus less energy wasted.

Gas-Fired Boilers Are Better for the Environment

Gas boilers are much less harmful to the environment than other heat sources, producing almost 30% less carbon dioxide than oil boilers and nearly 45% less carbon dioxide than coal. In addition, natural gas is easy to drill for and can be found in massive quantities throughout North America, allowing us to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
