Is your furnace heating your home less efficiently than you want it to? Do you want to upgrade to a more environmentally friendly natural gas furnace? Benefits of Gas Furnaces

Gas furnaces have lower costs

Gas furnaces hold many advantages over their oil-burning counterparts. For one thing, gas burns much more cleanly (and therefore less expensively) than oil. Most oil furnaces require yearly service to remove accumulated soot and sulfur deposits – gas furnaces save you money by eliminating these requirements. Not only do they leave no soot, but gas furnaces also produce no oily odor. Gas furnaces are generally much more reliable and less likely to break down than oil or electric furnaces.

In addition to lower maintenance costs, gas furnaces will always have lower fuel costs than oil furnaces. While natural gas is still subject to price hikes, experts predict that it will never reach the price levels of oil.

Gas furnaces have higher efficiency

Gas furnaces are the most efficient type of furnace. While all gas furnaces on the market today are required to have AFUE ratings of 78%, most have much higher ratings than that and many are in the high 90% range. Given the way oil burns, an oil furnace will never be able to reach these levels.

In addition, gas furnaces are far less expensive than electric furnaces, which are often inefficient and lose heat quickly. Electric furnaces will also not work when the power goes out.

Gas furnaces have lower emissions

Gas furnaces release far lower quantities of emissions than oil furnaces, which means they can operate in much less space. While oil furnaces need flues at least 18 inches wide to release harmful gasses, natural gas furnaces only need 8 inch pipes to do their job. Also, oil fumes have to be heated again in order to make them light enough to escape – heat that should be going into your home.

If you already have a gas furnace, you might want to check when it was installed. Gas furnaces made 10 or more years ago may not be up to today’s efficiency standards and could very well be costing you money you don’t need to be wasting. If you live in Maryland or Washington, DC and are ready to install your new gas furnace, call Michael Bonsby HVAC, Plumbing & Electrical today! We supply most major brands of furnaces, and are an authorized American Standard Furnace dealer.
